SPRING 26 NUTRIENT

Nutrient: (noun) a substance that provides nourishment essential for the maintenance of life & growth.

Here's Jolene's for late Spring 2026

Self Care Tips

I'd like to share a couple of my nourishing practices. We're 6 years into running the business, and I've been musing on the fact that a key factor in our survival has been my own increased confidence, which in turn is directly linked to all the 'self development / self care' style work I have basically HAD to learn to do in order to survive the never ending bumps in the road that is running a business that relies on manufacturing...(or indeed just existing in this crazy world)

Two highlights - I've learned to TRUST MY GUT - simple, but hard! Largely thanks to the amazing Arizona Smith who I invest in working with one to one, but also follow her free & beautiful insta + email list prompts, and use her tarot deck almost daily.

I've also committed to a small daily morning practice of yoga + meditation (10 + 5 mins) and the combined result of it all is that I can cope better with the world in meltdown, and I don't have my nervous system going into free-fall every time something goes wrong in the business. When I need an extra little bit of help and belief, I do this meditation which I adore (main photo is me listening to this in our studio - this is work too!)

Comedy Podcast

Of course, EVERYTHING feels better with a bit of silly, and David O Doherty is exactly that. I have inhaled all the back episodes of his podcast, What Did You Do Yesterday.  Fav episodes are with Sam Campbell , Isy Suttie and (Glasgow's own, as we like to call her) Josie Long

Here's Mil's

Everybody to Kenmuir Street - documentary

Felipe Bustos Sierra’s film is not only a testament to the power of community, but also - to me - a love letter to Glasgow, represented by not only acts of selfless bravery but kindness & generosity in the face of adversity. Catch it if you can: anger is an energy! (spoiler warning in the next bit of text!)

In the early hours of 13th May 2021 two Sikh men of Indian origin were taken from their homes on Kenmure St in the south side of Glasgow and bundled into a white van marked with the sinister message IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT. ‘Everybody to Kenmure Street’ is the inspiring documentary film that tells the story of what happened next…

Following the urgent, obstructive actions of a few conscientious neighbours to prevent the immediate departure of the Home Office van, word spreads quickly through the local community as increasing numbers of concerned local citizens swarm to the site to effectively contain the van in response an exponentially growing police presence.

Everybody to Kenmure Street’  is mainly constructed from crowd-sourced phone footage, archive material, interviews with several key protagonists & some dramatised scenes, intercut with narrated archive to contextualise the role of immigrant population within Glasgow’s social, political and economic history. Edited to give a real sense of the tension as the situation evolves, the film captures the tension of a community bound together in outrage at the blatant injustice happening on their doorstep, in the residential neighbourhood of Pollokshields, which happens not only to be considered the most ethnically diverse constituency in Scotland but also represented at that time by then First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. The fact that the Home Office had chosen to authorise the raid on the first day of Eid - a significant day of celebration for many in the community - only served to heighten the sense of anger.

As the likelihood of a full-scale riot starts to look increasingly likely, thanks in large part to the inappropriately aggressive behaviour of the police in detaining a young protester, the calm but impassioned & authoritative intervention of local human rights lawyer Aamer Anwar manages both to take control of the volatile emotional situation and negotiate the release of the 2 men to a rapturous reception.
